Adopt A Fire Hydrant

What are we doing

Kyneton CFA has started the Adopt A Fire Hydrant program for Kyneton, aiming to ensure that all hydrants around Kyneton are ready for firefighters to use during time critical emergencies where access to water is needed.

What do we need the public to do?

We are asking residents from around Kyneton to go outside their property and see if you have a hydrant on your naturestrip or footpath and if it's accessible to firefighters.

  • Is the hydrant plug easily accessible? Not covered in dirt and not hidden in a bush.
  • Is the hydrant plug undamaged and has a plate covering it?
  • Is there a red and white marker near the hydrant?
  • Are there cars parked over or blocking hydrants?

We ask that you do not try to remove the plate on top of the hydrant, only clean away grass and dirt from on top and around it.

What if there is an issue?

If there is any one of the following:

  • No white and red marker near the hydrant,
  • The red and white post near the hydrant is very faded (you can't see the red) or damaged,
  • No plate on top of the hydrant,
  • Damaged hydrant (leaking, plate not sitting well, cracked),
  • No blue marker on the road in line with the hydrant,
  • The blue marker on the road is not clearly visible (covered in ashphalt or the reflective part of the marker has come off)
